What is the need of separate ROM for India?

Earlier, Xiaomi has been using Global ROMs of MIUI in India. In these ROMs, many apps from Company and other Chinese brands used to came pre-installed as per their agreement. Now, as Indian Government has banned most of most used application based on Chinese developers, Xiaomi has to comply to Government guidelines while selling phones.

Also, ongoing tensions between China and India in borders have already started affecting Chinese origin companies and they have been already facing the heat of public in many aspects.

It is yet unknown which version of MIUI will be ported to Indian version as current development version MIUI 12 is releasing for some older models including POCO F1 as well.

If Xiaomi has to remain relevant and Indian Market and has to keep selling phones and other products, it has to respect sentiments of Indian Users as well as Guidelines of Indian Government. To overcome this trust issue with Government and many cyber researchers, Xiaomi has announced they will be creating MIUI Indian version and also storing all data locally for Indian users.
