WhatsApp has rolled out new feature to allow adding contacts using QR code. This is guide about How to Add WhatsApp contact using QR code below. This feature is available in public beta build 2.20.169 onward. Using this feature, you can share your WhatsApp profile link without displaying mobile number to others and also scan other users profile link to add them to contact.
What is QR Code feature in WhasApp?
As of now, you have to share your mobile number which is your username also to someone who wants you to add contact on WhatsApp or start messaging. Yes, there is a trick which allows you to start conversation without adding person to phonebook contact.
Like other messaging apps, now WhatsApp has rolled QR codes for each user. With each QR code there is unique URL containing link to that QR code which do not contain mobile number in plant text.
How to generate WhatsApp QR Code?
If you are on latest public beta build (Version 2.20.169) or once it is rolled, below is the process to generate QR code for your profile.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Click on three vertical dots (menu) and choose Setting.
- On the right corner of your phone, there is QR code button.
- Tapping on QR button will lead you to your QR Code Page, also there is also a button which brings SCAN code page.
- You can share QR code using share buttons at the top right corner or even reset QR code by clicking Options (three vertical dots) and choosing Reset QR code.
How to Add WhatsApp contact using QR code?

- Open WhatsApp.
- Click on three vertical dots (menu) and choose Setting.
- On the right corner of your phone, there is QR code button.
- Tapping on QR button will lead you to your QR Code Page, also there is also a button which brings SCAN code page. Tap on SCAN CODE link.
- It will open a QR code scanner by default. If you have received QR code by other means, there is option to choose files from Gallery also.
