Microsoft has announced today they are ending support for Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA).

What exactly is Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA)

Windows Subsystem for Android™️ enables your Windows 11 device to run Android applications that are available in the Amazon Appstore.

Basic idea is you can run android apps on Windows. The catch was they never fully supported Google’s Play Store and apps can only be downloaded via Amazon App Store.

Amazon Appstore is available on Windows 11 devices in 31 countries across nine marketplaces. Customers can install the Amazon Appstore client through the Microsoft store to access Android apps from their PC.

WSA and already downloaded apps will continue to work till 5th March 2025.

Following note is posted in official learn page of WSA.

Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android™️ (WSA). As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025. Until then, technical support will remain available to customers.
Customers that have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps prior to March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025. Please reach out to our support team for further questions at support.microsoft.com. We are grateful for the support of our developer community and remain committed to listening to feedback as we evolve experiences.

While some of users are not liking the move by Microsoft to end support but most of users doesn’t care about.

Few users even went further to suggest that this ecosystem should have been created couple of years ago inside Windows Phone when they bought the phone business from Nokia.
